Two children shot in separate incidents hours apart highlight Buffalo’s gun violence spike

BUFFALO, NY (WIVB) – Gun violence is on the rise in Buffalo and now there are even more concerns after two children were shot in separate incidents hours apart.

The latest figures from the Erie County District Attorney’s Office show gun violence has increased 100% from last year and these children are now the most recent victims.

A 12-year-old and a 17-year-old were both shot dead in separate incidents in the city of Buffalo on Tuesday.

The 12-year-old was shot in the ankle near Ashley Street around 3:30 p.m. in the afternoon by a stray bullet.

Obviously, he was definitely not the intended target, but the person he was standing next to was and that person has a violent history, ”said Joseph Gramaglia, deputy commissioner of the Buffalo Police Department. .

The situation was a little different for the 17-year-old as police say he was a target. He was shot dead just before 6.30am last night near rue de Genève. He is in stable condition.

“We have a shooting problem, not only in the city of Buffalo, but in every major city across the country. We follow these, we all talk. We all have the same problems. A lot of it has to do with the pandemic, there are a lot of societal issues that are the reasons behind it, but when a bad guy is caught with a gun he has to be held responsible, ”Gramaglia added.

Anyone with information about any of these shootings is asked to call or text the confidential TIPCALL line at (716) 847-2255.
