Listen: DFT director Elliot Wilhelm talks about “Eyimofe”.

Filmed in richly textured colors and imbued with the spirit and legacy of neorealist storytelling, “Eyimofe” traces the journeys of two strangers far apart: Mofe (Jude Akuwudike), an electrician confronted with the fallout of an unexpected family tragedy; and Rosa (Temi Ami-Williams), a hairdresser who supports her pregnant teenage sister. The film finds them as they each pursue their dreams of starting a new life in Spain and Italy, respectively, while also grappling with the harsh economic realities of a world in which every interaction is, in fact, a transaction.

From these intimate and detailed stories emerges a vivid snapshot of life in contemporary Lagos, a city of over 14 million people, whose social fabric is captured here in all its vibrancy and complexity.
