Smithwick’s Experience Kilkenny launches new outdoor space and Barrel Yard flavor room

from Smithwick Live Kilkenny announced its all-new Barrel Yard outdoor space and Flavors Room sensory experience.

Smithwick’s unique experience, located in the heart of Kilkenny’s Abbey Quarter, pays homage to red beer and its 300-year history.

The experience reopened in July 2022 with new spaces and upgrades throughout.

The yard of the barrels

The beer brand explained that the Barrel Yard, the new outdoor space at Smithwick’s Experience, is the location of the old Brewery courtyard where historically large wooden casks were repaired and stored ready to be filled with Smithwick beer for distribution to pubs across Ireland.

In years past, this space would have been a hive of activity, fondly remembered by many former brewery workers and their families who remain in Kilkenny to this day, he added.

Speaking at the launch of the new Barrel Yard and Flavors Room, Catherine Toolan, Managing Director of Diageo Irish Brand Homes said: “Our new outdoor space, The Barrel Yard, is the perfect place to catch up with friends or relax after your Smithwick experience.”

Hall of Flavors

The Flavor Room, another new addition, explores Smithwick’s ingredients and flavor profile.

“The Hall of Flavors, the penultimate stop on the tour, will allow visitors to better appreciate the artistic ingredients and taste of the famous red beer,” Toolan added.

Smithwick’s Experience Kilkenny is open from Thursday to Monday inclusive.

Tickets from €16, including visit and free beer tasting for over 18s with valid ID.

Non-alcoholic options and soft drinks are also available. Group rates are available on request.
