The pandemic has created a new generation of tinkerers. Maybe you’re barbecuing more or just spending more time outdoors and looking more at your lawn and garden, wanting to make a change.

Sara Bendrick, Licensed Landscape Contractor, shares some dos and don’ts when it comes to redesigning your outdoor space and how you can successfully revitalize the exterior of your home without breaking the bank.

Here are some of Sara’s tips:

  • Take your budget into account and use alternative materials. With high lumber prices, alternative materials for fencing or screens are the way to go.
  • Expand your indoor living space outdoors by setting up areas ideal for social gatherings with family and friends. Create the perfect outdoor entertaining space by adding a fireplace and a garden nook for the outdoor furniture.
  • Choose flowers that complement each other and limit your color palette to one or two accent colors for a balanced look. Remember to choose colors that complement your home. Another trend is “flowerless” gardens which focus on a variety of foliage colors and textures, creating a relaxing and zen vibe.
  • When in doubt, call a pro. They can give you landscaping ideas and tips on how to get started. A pro can also help you understand the tools you’ll need for each project.
