Opportunity to take on outdoor challenges with the kids – and embarrass them with “Dancing Daddy”
A celebration of fatherhood, a return to nature, building campfires, spending time with the kids outdoors, taking on adrenaline-filled challenges – and competing in world championships in the art of daddy’s dance – due to start in Cornwall tomorrow (Friday 20th August).
DadFest, which claims to be the UK’s only ‘Fatherhood Festival’, starts tomorrow in Penryn and runs until Sunday. This is a unique festival now in its eighth year and has already been awarded ‘Best Small Event in the UK’ by the National Outdoor Events Association. Organized by Dangerous Dads Community Interest Company (CIC), DadFest is aimed at dads, male carers and their children of all ages and takes place at Via Ferrata Cornwall, located at the Goodygrane Activity Centre, Halvasso, Long Downs, Penryn TR10 9BX .
DadFest organizer and ‘Dangerous Dads’ founder Ian Blackwell is excited about this year’s DadFest and said: ‘Dads tell us how much they enjoy getting back to nature, relaxing and spending special time with their children and other dads. It’s about having fun with their kids, like playing in the woods, building dens, exploring nature, camping, and sharing stories around a campfire.
The festival is renowned for its flagship event: the “World Dancing Dads Championship”, the supreme title of which is hotly contested by enthusiastic dads, to the great embarrassment of their children. Cornwall’s winning sire will win bragging rights and a chimney trophy.
DadFest 2021 will feature a range of fun activities including archery, storytelling, bat walks, bushwalking, campfire cooking, ziplining, kayaking, building dens, tobogganing, coasteering, rafting, an adventure course and rewards. win beer, food and more. All this is included in the price.
However, there is also a super unique and exhilarating activity on the cards: the Alpine-style Via Ferrata itself. Metal steps, suspension bridges and zip lines make it one of the most adrenaline-charged climbing activities in the world. Event organizers say: “Now that the Via Ferrata has arrived in Cornwall, you can enjoy the ultimate cable car adventure as you travel through historic granite quarries in an epic challenge that will be fun, conquer your fears and give you amazing memories.”
They add, “Everything at DadFest is run by qualified and experienced managers who are fully insured and all risk assessments are in place. DadFest is a small, safe and intimate festival focused on outdoor activities. Every year, our goal is to get dads and their kids out into the wild…especially after a year of being locked indoors. This event will be COVID secure, but please speak to us if you have any concerns or questions (Via Ferrata Cornwall has received AA approval and “We’re ready to go” to operate as a Covid secure facility).
