Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) Mayor Mathew Dickerson, Councilors and MP for Calare The Hon. MP Andrew Gee officially opened the outdoor lounge at Wellington Library on Saturday 23rd April 2022.
The Wellington Library Living Lounge Room is a versatile outdoor event lounge and community meeting space. The new outdoor space is cozy and welcoming with wooden seating and tables, a variety of plantings and soft landscaping to provide a tranquil and aesthetically appealing environment.
Dubbo Regional Council Mayor Mathew Dickerson said the outdoor space will meet a range of community needs. “The outdoor lounge is a great space for individuals or community groups, I can see many uses for this space including business meetings, library events, story times and much more,” Mr. Dickerson said.
The Wellington Library outdoor lounge was delivered in partnership with the Australian Government. DRC received $50,000 from the Australian Government’s Drought Communities Project.
MP for Calare and Minister of Veterans Affairs and Defense Personnel, MP Andrew Gee, said he was excited about the many benefits this project would bring to Wellington.
“The Wellington Library is a treasure trove of excellent books, magazines, DVDs and CDs, and is run by wonderful staff who strive to make every visit extraordinary,” said Minister Gee.
“Now visitors to Wellington Library will be able to enjoy the installation’s extensive physical and digital collection in the grand interior, with the ribbon cut on an outdoor library space.
“Thanks to $50,000 in support from the Australian Government, the ‘Outdoor Lounge’ will allow library enthusiasts to sunbathe while reading the latest newspapers and immerse themselves in a good book in the sun!”
“It’s great to see local residents enjoying the new space, which will also provide a welcoming place for community groups to meet,” Mr Gee said.
Designed by Council staff who envisioned an outdoor green garden space that maintained the connection to Cameron Park and reflected features such as wooden fencing and paving of the new playground.
Local contractors who have been contracted to complete this project include Dubbo Landscaping, Barnson, Redfern Power Solutions, All Aspects Concreting and Earthworks, EJF Welding Dubbo, Darling Irrigation Dubbo and R&D Glass Wellington.
Library visitors and the Wellington community are encouraged to enjoy the ambiance of this beautiful new library space.
