New outdoor space will have a positive impact in Ellon

New outdoor space at Ellon Day Opportunities to positively impact community members

Work is now complete on Ellon Day Opportunities’ new outdoor space, which will provide staff and service users with an improved area for recreation and rest.

The work was carried out by Ellon Rotary Club and JKR Contractors, with the help of volunteers from the Rotary Club.

Landscaping work began in October of last year and took about a month.

Ellon Day Opportunities offers support to adults with learning disabilities in Ellon and surrounding areas.

The center offers development opportunities in the form of scheduled activities and community work experiences.

After the confinement, Ellon Day Opportunities staff wanted to create a multifunctional outdoor space for service users.

The new outdoor lot will provide space for recreational activities, outdoor relaxation and planting flowers and vegetables in the spring.

Center Day Services Manager Una Simpson said, “At Ellon Day Opportunities, we are thrilled with our new outdoor space.

“Our goal was to create a safe space for our service users to exercise, garden or just sit outside and enjoy a cup of tea.

“We are very grateful to Ellon Rotary Club and JKR Contractors for their time and hard work throughout the completion of the project.

“We hope the plot will have a positive impact on the mental health and well-being of our community for years to come.”

Councilor Anne Stirling, Vice-Chair of the Aberdeenshire Health and Social Care Partnership Joint Integration Board, said: “It is a pleasure to see the work completed at Ellon Day Opportunities.

“The new outdoor court will no doubt be a welcome addition to the space for members of the Ellon community.”

“This past year has shown us the importance of community and spending time outdoors, and I believe this space will benefit the center in both aspects.

“I want to salute the hard work of everyone involved in this project, including the staff at Ellon Day Opportunities, Ellon Rotary Club and JKR Contractors.”

The new outdoor space was unveiled at Ellon Day Opportunities with a groundbreaking ceremony hosted with the Ellon Rotary Club.
