When the owner approaches 7 feet tall, it makes sense to go big in the build.
That’s part of why one of the homes featured in the Spring 2022 Home Parade offers high ceilings, above-average counter heights, and plenty of sprawling outdoor spaces.
It is located in the far northeast corner of Sioux Falls at 8505 E. Sugar Leaf Circle.
“We were looking for something unique and quirky,” said builder Kim Hofer, owner of Big D Homes. “It went well. Were very happy.”
The five-bedroom, seven-bathroom home includes a 2,000 square foot garage that doubles as a basement.
“We tried to go for modern, but we’re going for warm modern,” Hofer said. “We tried to go big, scale everything. Big open spaces, tall doors, things like that.

Other lots are starting to open up to buyers, Hofer said. This is especially true in northeast Sioux Falls, which has seen a concentration of new construction over the past year.
“I think the good thing here is there are lots of views, hills, people not piled on top of each other,” Hofer said.
Builders have some availability this year, he added. And supply chain issues seem to be a bit better, as well as construction costs.
“It’s a little easier,” Hofer said. “It’s a bit of an ups and downs right now. We hear that markets are changing, lumber prices are doing the same thing. Labor is hard to come by, honestly. Everyone everyone says the same thing.
