DHS Warns Wisconsinitis Vaccine Should Be Free for You | WFRV Local 5

APPLETON, Wisconsin (WFRV) – The Wisconsin Department of Health Services has an important message for anyone looking for the COVID-19 vaccine it should be free for you personally.

The program is run by the CDC, and all vendors sign an agreement before receiving vaccine shipments, stating that they will not charge individuals for the vaccine.

Acting US Attorney Timothy O’Shea for the Western District of Wisconsin said, “The addition of illegal charges creates obstacles, especially for those of limited means, and jeopardizes public health and safety.”

DHS said that billing recipients of the vaccine or refusing a potential recipient based on their ability to pay “may result in the suspension or termination of the provider of the CDC COVID-19 vaccination program and criminal penalties and potential civilians ”.

Local health care providers say it’s important that everyone has the opportunity to be vaccinated, regardless of your ability to pay.

Jacob Rouse, revenue cycle director for Bellin Health, said, “Get vaccinated and make sure there are no barriers. The CARES law and the HEROES law all point to this very simple theme, patients will not be responsible for the cost of the vaccine. “

Statewide providers can bill public and private insurance companies to recoup some of the money spent on immunization efforts.

“There will never be a cost to the patients,” Rouse said. “Bellin, regardless of which health care system patients go to, no cost will be passed on to a patient, whether or not they have insurance.”

Officials also remind residents of Wisconsin that a lack of insurance should not be a barrier to getting vaccinated because it is not necessary to be vaccinated against the coronavirus.
