The Christmas period is an exceptionally busy time at Clark Rubber, with customers eager to purchase items that are usually part of the holiday season, such as pool toys and accessories, and spare mattresses so the extended family can sleep when they spend the night.

In addition to spending time with family and friends, Clark Rubber staff will also be working hard this summer to provide their many customers with expert service and advice during this busy time of year.

Clark Rubber founder Douglas Clark was born in Bendigo in 1922, and Clark Rubber has operated in Bendigo for over 25 years.

Co-manager Peter Hyett and his business partner purchased Clark Rubber Bendigo in late September from David and Sherrill Griffin, who ran the business for 21 years.

“Clark Rubber has a long history in Bendigo, being a well-known and respected company often referred to as a problem-solving store,” Hyett said.

“Most people in Bendigo, if they hadn’t visited the store, they certainly know it.”

Clark Rubber’s two directors are joined by four full-time employees and four casual employees.

One of the full-time employees is the company’s longtime pool technician, Daniel, who will soon be joined by a second technician.

Hyett said much of the business sells, services and supplies pool toys, parts and chemicals, while there is also a huge range of rubber products ranging from small eyelets to uterine and equine pad insertion and pinch welding rubber for many applications.

Clark Rubber also sells foam mattresses, which can be cut to size, as well as indoor, outdoor and custom cushions.

“We seem to be able to provide a solution to most people’s problems, big or small,” Hyett said, adding that there have been many wonderful memories created by the families who have owned a Clark Rubber pool.

“We just want to provide a solution to any project people may undertake, and our staff are always helpful and polite.”

Hyett said Bendigo is a very community town. “People are active, supportive and always on the move – Clark Rubber is a company that supports this kind of community.

“Most of our staff are members of community and sports groups, and Clark Rubber supports and will continue to support these groups.”
