(DE PERE, Wisconsin) – The De Pere Girls Cross Country team have secured their ticket to declare the last four out of five seasons.
The commitment shown by the students is what really transformed the program.
“To come in first year, we knew we had something special. When we got there the grades before us were all good so going in and doing this for three consecutive years is pretty cool and we hope this is something that will continue in the future even though our seniors will graduate next year », Says Kylie Trousil, senior.
It’s the bond the ladies share off the course that keeps this group together so well.
“Among all of our children, we have children who are fully engaged with each other. They’ve been like this for a few years and it just gets stronger with each race when we have bigger opportunities, ”said head coach Chris Hendricks.
Seniors know how much a solid finish can add to their heritage as Redbirds.
“A small group of us have been training since October and November when our season was initially canceled. Since then we just can’t wait to get back into the season and now to get going and not just that, but being in the state is such a great feeling, ”says senior Karley Baumgart.
As De Pere will report for the third consecutive season in 2021, the coaches know exactly what’s at stake.
“We have a chance to do something quite special in terms of something that may never have been done in the history of De Pere Girls Cross Country, so yes we have a good opportunity ahead” , says Hendricks.
De Pere will compete on Saturday May 8 for the state title at Janesville.
