The Buffalo Bills added depth to the wide receiver and defensive tackle on Tuesday with their recent additions.
The list of injured and absent players from Buffalo Bills training continues to grow. According to Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic, the Bills had 17 players absent from training on Tuesday. Of those 17 players, four were wide receivers (Cole Beasley, Gabriel Davis, Marquez Stevenson, Isaiah Hodgins) and three were defensive tackles (Vernon Butler, Star Lotulelei, Harrison Phillips).
An unlisted player was Isaiah McKenzie, who suffered a shoulder injury during training and was reportedly about to have an MRI, according to to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
With the Buffalo Bills having some time before their first regular-season game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, they have to worry about another preseason game coming up against the Green Bay Packers on Saturday.
Buffalo Bills claim WR Rico Gafford, DT Joey Ivie
Considering that and the injuries the team face in both positions, it’s no surprise to see them claim Rico Gather and Joey Ivie, two players who are expected to help the team depth ahead of the last preseason game.
Rico Gafford was recently with the Arizona Cardinals, but before that he spent three seasons with the Raiders. He was originally an undrafted free agent and entered the NFL as a cornerback, but while with the Raiders he rose to wide receiver and has four career receptions for 66 yards and a touchdown.
He’s also been familiar with a number of Bills from his college days at the University of Wyoming and was on the same team with Josh Allen, Tanner Gentry, and Jacob Hollister.
On the defensive end of the ball, the Bills added defensive tackle Joey Ivie. He was a seventh-round pick by the Dallas Cowboys and the Buffalo Bills will be his eighth franchise in three years.
It will be hard to imagine that either player is capable of making enough impact to earn a place in the 53-man roster, but with a good week of training and a solid performance in this season. of the preseason game, there’s a chance they could play their part on the Buffalo Bills practice squad.
