DETROIT – “We are all focused on security. Anything that involves security, anything that involves protecting people, we take care of everything, ”said Daniel Claxton, owner of the Detroit Bodyguard Protection Unit.
Protecting people is the raison d’être of the Detroit Bodyguard Protection Unit on West 8 Mile Road.
“We have about 130 employees, security guards. We work throughout the state of Michigan, ”Claxton said.
The business is in the security business with a twist.
“We like to focus on high profile people, a lot of celebrities, a lot of athletes, politicians,” Claxton said.
Claxton was born and raised in the eastern part of Detroit. He said the idea started with him working on security for other companies. Then in 2018, he decided to become his own boss.
When you see the building and the name you automatically think of security, but the owner says his business does a lot more than that.
It was here, in this eastern Detroit neighborhood, that Claxton grew up.
He bought and transformed several houses in this neighborhood. He said it was his way of giving back.
“Buy and renovate homes, turn them into homes for families in need. Rehabilitation homes, rehabilitation homes. I’m setting up a community center, a community center for young people so that I can offer vocational training and offer activities and different things for young people, ”said Claxton.
But there is more, it also provides jobs.
“I’ll hire anyone who wants to work, demolish, do anything, even jobs they don’t know. We will train them on how to do it. We’re going to give them a job to do something, ”Claxton said.
